FIRE ALARM AND SMOKE DETECTION

We supply, install, test, and maintain Fire Detection Systems to AS1670 and AS1851

Fire Detection or Smoke Alarms?

There are two primary categories of fire detection systems: those designed for commercial applications and those intended for residential use. In various premises, a certifier has the flexibility to utilize either system. However, when engaging with a fire professional, it is advisable to employ the appropriate terminology in order to avoid any potential confusion.

Fire detection systems are commonly fitted in expansive establishments such as warehouses, factories, or office buildings. Typically, these systems are interconnected with an alarm panel that oversees the comprehensive fire protection mechanism of a building, encompassing emergency power sources and sprinkler systems.

Installation

To guarantee the proper installation of fire detection systems, engaging the services of a certified fire industry professional is imperative. This ensures their eligibility in both installing and maintaining the alarm system. Given the distinct classification and design variations of different buildings, it becomes essential to employ an expert capable of assessing and determining the most suitable configuration to fulfill your specific requirements.

Fire cables are broken into two classes: Class A and Class B.

Class A fire cables are typically used for low voltage detection lines running with communications cables, which may include power and data lines.

Class B fire cables are used for higher voltage (typically 100volts) systems that require a dedicated cable run, such as fire alarm systems. In this case, the cable must be kept separate from standard 240volt electrical cables.

The reason for these different classes is that there is a possibility of interference between Class A fire cables and communication lines if they are installed together on the same cable tray or conduit. The interference can mask faults in the system and interfere with fire alarms.

Commissioning

Commissioning the as1670 fire detection system is an essential step in the design and installation process. Its purpose is to verify that the fire detection system has been designed in accordance with as1670 and operates in compliance with the specified design requirements.

Depending on the level of complexity of the as1670 system being designed, the commissioning test may be completed within an hour by a single fire technician or extend over several days by involving multiple technicians and specialists, especially in the case of interconnected systems.

The objective of commissioning is to verify that the fire detection system has been designed in accordance with as1670 regulations and operates as intended. Commonly known as a 100% test among fire technicians, commissioning tests rigorously examine each component of the system.

As part of the ongoing testing process, it is imperative for the installer and certifier to duly complete the necessary documentation in accordance with as1670. This procedural step is aimed at ensuring that the fire detection system’s functionality aligns with the standards set forth by as1670.

Fire Detection Systems can be intricate and complex. With our team of highly skilled QBCC licenced Fire Detection technicians, Spartan Fire can evaluate your Fire Detection System, eliminate the occurrence of nuisance false alarms, and ensure your system complies with AS1670 design requirements.

There can be multiple factors contributing to false alarms in businesses’ Fire Detection Systems. It is important to consider the design, environment, and maintenance aspects. By addressing these three key areas, we can usually minimize unnecessary fire brigade callouts and disruptions to your business or residential properties. Our team is eager to apply their expertise in problem fault finding and reduce unwanted alarms, ultimately saving costs and minimizing interruptions to your business operations.
