FIRE SPRINKLER SYSTEMS

Fire sprinkler systems are highly efficient active fire protection systems utilised to safeguard various commercial and industrial properties, including offices and factories.

At Spartan Fire, we possess extensive expertise in the design, installation, and maintenance of such systems. Our team is dedicated to providing a customized fire sprinkler system layout that adheres to the highest standards of Australian Fire Protection.

Sprinkler systems operate based on heat activation. In the event of a fire, the surrounding air experiences rapid heating, causing it to rise. Each sprinkler head is equipped with a bulb containing an alcohol-based liquid that expands under high temperatures. Subsequently, the bulb fractures, initiating the release of water to extinguish the fire. This mechanism ensures that solely the sprinkler heads corresponding to the fire-affected areas are activated, limiting the potential for unnecessary water damage in unaffected sections.

Fire sprinkler system maintenance

When it comes to installing fire sprinkler systems and meeting the necessary requirements, your system should adhere to Australian Standards 1851 (AS 1851). This standard outlines the testing, inspection, and maintenance requirements for fire sprinklers. Additionally, your system should comply with building codes (AS 2118) that cover the manufacturing, installation, and commissioning of sprinklers and other fire safety equipment, such as fire hose reels and fire extinguishers.

Firstly, AS 1851 requires a four-stage approach. These stages involve testing the equipment, maintaining records, reporting and rectifying any failures in the fire equipment, and conducting annual condition reports.

Secondly, AS 2118 specifies that residential buildings must have residential-type fire sprinkler systems. These systems should meet various requirements, including having reliable water supplies, sprinkler heads, pipework, pumps, and control valves.

Finally, there are specific testing regulations for sprinkler systems. These involve basic and annual system testing, including fire alarms, spring heads, control valves, and annual flow testing. Using appropriate test equipment, the operation of these components is verified.
Our qualified technicians carry out fire sprinkler testing in accordance with the Australian standard. The inspection and maintenance involves, but is not limited to, the following services:

  • Testing of the full sprinkler system – monthly
  • Sprinkler booster pump servicing – monthly
  • Sprinkler system flow testing – annually
  • System repairs to rectify faults and repair damage
